Coffee Sponge Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
    2 tsp. instant coffee
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. dark Karo syrup
    1 Tbsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Dissolve coffee in vinegar in a heavy 3-quart saucepan.
    Add sugar and syrup.
    Bring to a boil over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
    Boil without stirring to 300\u00b0 or small amount separates into a hard brittle thread in cold water.
    Remove from heat. Quickly stir in the soda, mixing thoroughly.
    Pour into lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Do not spread or it will not be spongy.
    This will spread itself.
    Cool.
    Break into pieces.
