Ingredients

1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/3 c. buttermilk or sour milk
3/4 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
Preparation

Measure flour, soda and salt; sift together.
Cream butter. Gradually add sugar; mix until light and fluffy.
Beat in vanilla and egg, then blend in melted chocolate.
Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk, mixing well.
Fold in walnuts.
Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
