Date Loaf Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sugar
    1 lb. dates, chopped
    1 c. nuts
    pinch of salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 c. milk
Preparation
    Mix all ingredients together in large kettle.
    Stir and bring to a rolling boil for 8 minutes.
    Remove from heat; beat until stiff.
    Shape mixture into loaf and chill for 24 hours.
    Slice to serve.
    (I add nuts and vanilla after it is cooked.)
