Chocolate Sin - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
    1/2 c. light or dark rum
    2 c. heavy cream
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    6 large egg whites (at room temperature)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    2/3 c. granulated sugar
    chocolate shavings or scrolls for garnish (optional)
Preparation
    Combine the semi-sweet chocolate pieces and rum in the top of a double boiler.
    Set over lightly simmering water and stir occasionally until the chocolate is melted and blended with the rum.
    Set aside to cool.
