Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. molasses
1 c. hot water
1 c. shortening
7 1/2 c. flour
5 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
Preparation

Combine the first 4 ingredients until creamy, then add remaining ingredients.
Form into small balls and pat down with a fork.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
