Crispy Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 cucumbers
    2 gal. water
    2 qt. vinegar
    2 tsp. whole cloves
    2 c. lime (calcium hydroxide)
    8 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers about 1/8-inch thick.
    Dissolve lime in water and cover cucumber slices.
    Let stand for 24 hours.
    Rinse well. Let stand for 3 hours in clear water; drain.
    Mix well the vinegar, sugar, cloves and salt and pour over cucumbers.
    Let stand overnight.
    In the morning, bring to a boil for 35 to 40 minutes.
    Fill sterilized jars within 1/2-inch of top with cucumbers and syrup.
    Put on cap; screw band firmly tight. Process in boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
    Yields 10 pints.
