Aunt Sadie'S Jam Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. butter (2 sticks)
    3/4 c. sugar
    3 egg yolks
    3 c. cake flour (you can use regular flour if you subtract 2 Tbsp. per c.)
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. or more either strawberry or raspberry preserves
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 c. chopped nuts
    3 stiffly beaten egg whites
Preparation
    Bottom Layer:
    Cream the butter with the sugar.
    Blend in the egg yolks, flour, baking powder and vanilla.
    Using heel of hand, fit dough into bottom of a 10 x 12-inch baking pan.
