German Sweet Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. dates, chopped
    1 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. butter or stick oleo
    2 eggs
    1 3/4 c. flour
    2 tsp. cocoa
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 pkg. chocolate chips (for sprinkling before putting in oven)
    1 pkg. pecans (to mix with chocolate chips)
Preparation
    Mix dates, boiling water and soda.
    Cream sugar and butter; add eggs.
    Sift together flour, cocoa and salt.
    Add to creamed mixture.
    Add date mixture and vanilla.
    Mix well and pour into 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over batter before baking.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
