Hearty Navy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 oz. dried navy beans
    4 c. chicken broth
    4 c. water
    1 1/2 to 2 lb. ham
    1 c. finely chopped onion
    1 1/2 c. coarsely chopped potatoes
    1/3 c. ketchup
    1/4 c. cider vinegar
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
    1 c. coarsely chopped carrot
    2 Tbsp. sliced green onions (optional)
Preparation
    Sort and rinse navy beans.
    Combine beans with enough water to cover by 2-inches in a stockpot.
    Bring beans to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand, covered, for 1 hour; drain well.
