Hamburger Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. beef
    1 c. each chopped onions, cubed potatoes, carrots, celery and shredded cabbage
    1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
    1/4 c. raw rice
    1 bay leaf, crushed
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/4 tsp. basil
    2 Tbsp. pepper
    1 1/2 qt. water
    dash of nutmeg
    Parmesan cheese
Preparation
    Brown beef with onions; drain.
    Add rest of ingredients except rice and cheese.
    Simmer 1 hour.
    Add rice and simmer 45 minutes longer.
    Serve with cheese.
    Better second day.
