Deluxe Strawberry Pie - cooking recipe

4 c. fresh strawberries, washed and capped
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
whipped cream or cream cheese, if desired
Preparation

Spread two cups of whole raw berries over bottom of cooked pie shell.
Mash remaining two cups of berries; add sugar, cornstarch and baking powder and mix thoroughly.
Put over heat and slowly bring to boil.
Turn heat low and cook, stirring constantly, about 10 minutes or until mixture thickens.
Add a few drops of red food coloring for deep color, if desired.
Cool mixture.
Pour over pie shell.
Cover with whipped cream or cream cheese if desired.
