Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 gal. sliced cucumbers
8 onions, sliced
1/2 c. coarse salt
5 c. sugar
5 c. vinegar
2 Tbsp. pickling spices
1 tsp. turmeric
Preparation

Pack the cucumbers, onions and coarse salt in 1 quart ice; let stand 3 hours.
Drain well.
Boil together the sugar, vinegar and pickling spices, tied in cloth.
Remove spices.
Add the turmeric and cucumbers; heat to boiling point, but do not boil.
Place pickles in pint jars and seal.
Makes about 7 pints.
