Old Fashioned Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. beef cubes
    1 qt. water
    1 bay leaf
    5 peppercorns
    1 c. sliced carrots
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 c. (1 lb.) tomatoes
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. marjoram leaves
    1/4 tsp. thyme leaves
Preparation
    Cover beef cubes with water.
    Heat to boiling.
    Add bay leaf and peppercorns.
    Reduce heat.
    Cover and simmer 1 3/4 hours or until meat is tender.
    Remove from heat, let cool, skim fat from surface.
    Strain stock into large saucepan.
    Add meat cubes and remaining ingredients.
    Heat to boiling.
    Cover and simmer 20 minutes or until carrots are tender.
    Yields 8 (1 cup) servings.
