Ingredients

1/2 c. Crisco (full measure)
1 1/2 c. sugar
6 eggs
4 tsp. baking powder (rounded)
2 tsp. vanilla
6 to 8 c. flour (more if needed)
Preparation

Cream Crisco and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one.
Add vanilla flavor.
Add baking powder to flour and sift.
Gradually add flour to creamed mixture until dough is of right consistency to roll.
Roll on floured board; cut into 3-inch squares with two slits in each doughnut or cut into desired shape.
Drop into hot cooking oil; let brown on one side; turn over and brown other side.
Remove and drain on paper.
