Belgian Braised Beef - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 to 2 lb. stew meat, cut into small pieces
    1 medium onion, chopped up
    1 can beer
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 clove garlic (optional)
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Put chopped onion and butter into a 3-quart boiler and cook until tender, stirring to keep from scorching, then add the seasoned meat to boiler.
    Stir until the meat is brown.
    Add one can of beer and one clove of garlic.
    Reduce the heat.
    Simmer until meat is tender.
    Remove the clove of garlic and add flour to thicken gravy.
    Add a little water to keep gravy smooth.
    Stir constantly.
    Remove from the heat.
    Serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles.
