Basic Cream Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 baked pie shell
    2 c. milk
    1/3 c. flour
    1/3 c. sugar
    1/8 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. butter
    3 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Scald milk; mix dry ingredients together.
    Add hot milk, slowly, stirring well.
    Add butter; cook in double boiler until thick and smooth, about 15 minutes.
    Stir often.
    Beat egg yolks slightly.
    Add a little hot filling.
    Stir quickly into mixture. Stir and cook 2 minutes.
    Cool and add flavoring.
    Pour into baked and cooled pastry shell.
    Cover with meringue (made with 3 egg whites).
    Brown in a slow oven.
