Old Fashioned Pound Cake - cooking recipe

1 c. butter
3 c. sugar
3 c. plain flour
1 c. milk
1/2 c. shortening
5 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon or almond extract
Preparation

Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Combine flour and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and other flavoring. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool cake in pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove from pan and cool completely.
