Pinwheel Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dates
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. water
    1/2 c. shortening or oleo
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. white sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 3/4 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Cook dates, 1/2 cup sugar and water until thick; cool.
    Cream shortening and rest of sugar.
    Add egg and vanilla.
    Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
    Divide dough.
    Roll 1/4-inch thick.
    Spread 1/2 mixture over dough.
    Roll like jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper.
    Chill until firm.
    Slice 1/4-inch thick. Place on slightly greased baking sheet.
    Bake in a 400\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
