Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. milk
2 cans pie filling (your favorite kind)
1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation

Mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; set aside.
Mix together the vanilla and milk; set aside.
Cream together the sugar and shortening until creamy.
Add egg; mix thoroughly.
Add flour mixture alternately with milk mixture. Knead with hands just until mixed.
Add more flour if sticky. Grease jelly roll pan lightly; set a small portion of dough aside for topping.
Spread remaining dough in pan, using your hands.
Be sure to cover sides of pan.
Pour filling into pan.
Roll remaining dough; cut into strips.
Place strips across filling, creating a crisscross effect.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for approximately 40 minutes, or until lightly browned.
