Date Roll Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. white corn syrup
    1 c. milk
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. chopped dates
    6 red cherries (optional)
    1 c. pecans, chopped (not too small)
    1 Tbsp. margarine
Preparation
    Bring to boil sugar, corn syrup and milk.
    Add chopped dates and cherries (whole).
    Boil slowly to soft ball stage.
    Add nuts and margarine.
    Remove from heat and let thicken.
    Set in cold water until cool.
    Beat until thick.
