Sylvia'S Country Style Chicken - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. chicken, cut up
    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 lb. sweet potatoes, pared and cut into 1/2-inch slices
    2 small green or red apples, cored and quartered
    1 large onion, sliced
    1 c. apple cider
    1/2 tsp. rubbed sage
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    2 Tbsp. water
    1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
Preparation
    In 12-inch skillet, brown chicken in oil and butter; remove to plate.
    To drippings in skillet, add potatoes and apples; cook, stirring, until browned.
    With slotted spoon, remove to bowl.
    To skillet, add onion; cook, stirring, until browned.
    Return chicken to skillet and add next 4 ingredients.
    Bring to boil over high heat.
    Reduce heat; cover and simmer 15 minutes.
    Return potatoes to skillet; cover and simmer 10 minutes.
    Return apples to skillet; cover and simmer 10 minutes until all are tender. Arrange on platter.
    Skim fat from liquid in skillet.
    Stir together water and flour; add to skillet.
    Cook, stirring, over low heat until mixture boils and thickens; spoon over chicken.
