Open House Mints - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    3 Tbsp. warm water
    5 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    3 tsp. warm water
    6 drops green food color
    6 drops oil of peppermint
Preparation
Combine butter, shortening, 2 tablespoons warm water and 2 cups sugar; mix thoroughly. Add remaining 3 cups sugar and 1 tablespoon warm water. (If needed, add little more sugar to make mixture stiff enough to roll out.) Add 3 teaspoons warm water mixed with green food color and oil of peppermint; knead thoroughly to mix. Roll out to 1/8-inch thickness on waxed paper dusted with powdered sugar. Cut with tiny cutters or inside of doughnut cutter. Let mints stand bottom side up at least 2 hours (preferable overnight) and store in airtight containers.
