Caramel Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. water
    1 c. sugar
    2 heaping Tbsp. cornstarch
    3 eggs, separated
    1 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 Tbsp. butter
Preparation
    Put 1/2 cup sugar in iron skillet.
    Over medium heat, melt sugar (do not stir, just shake the skillet).
    When browned, add 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil.
    Mix other ingredients (except egg whites and vanilla).
    Add melted sugar and cook, stirring constantly, until thick.
    Add vanilla and put in a baked pie shell. Beat egg whites with 4 tablespoons sugar until stiff.
    Put on pie filling and bake until brown.
