Fritter Batter - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 c. milk
    salt
    1 egg
    oil
    2 1/4 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. solid vegetable shortening
    about 3/4 c. warm water
    fat or oil for frying
Preparation
    Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
    Cut in 1 tablespoon of shortening.
    Melt and cool remaining 2 tablespoons of shortening and set aside.
    Add just enough water to flour mixture so dough holds together and can be handled easily.
    Knead on a lightly floured board until smooth (30 seconds), adding only enough flour to work dough.
