    1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
    2 tsp. vanilla
    2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
    2 c. sugar
    2/3 c. unsweetened cocoa
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    2 c. shredded tart apples (in processor or blender and drain)
    1 c. finely chopped nuts
