Our Families Favorite Devil'S Food Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    2/3 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    1/2 c. Hershey's cocoa
    1/2 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Preheat
    oven
    to
    350\u00b0.
    Grease and flour two (9-inch) layer cake
    pans.
    Cream
    sugar and shortening together until light and fluffy.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Add vanilla.
    Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
    Add
    alternately
    with
    buttermilk.
    Make
    a
    heavy smooth paste of cocoa
    and boiling water.
    Add and blend well. Pour into prepared pans and bake for about 35 minutes or until done.
    Frost with My Mother's Caramel Icing.
