Anadama Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. yellow cornmeal
    1/3 c. molasses
    1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    1/4 c. lukewarm water
    4 to 4 1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Bring salted water to boil in saucepan.
    Add cornmeal, stirring constantly.
    Remove from heat and stir in molasses and shortening.
    Cook to lukewarm.
    Mix yeast with 1/4 cup water and let stand 5 minutes.
    Blend yeast into cornmeal mixture, then mix in flour first with a spoon, then by hand.
    Dough will be sticky. Knead and let rise until double (1 1/2 hours).
    Punch down and turn into greased loaf pan.
    Let rise until double (about 1 hour). Brush top with melted butter.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.
    May be frozen.
