Patience Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. evaporated milk
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Put 2 cups sugar and milk on to boil.
    In a heavy skillet, put 1 cup sugar and caramelize it slowly.
    (Heat until melted and light brown.)
    Then add to the other sugar and milk.
    Add it slowly so it will not boil over, stirring constantly.
    Continue cooking to the soft boil when dropped into cold water.
    Remove from heat.
    Add salt, nuts, butter and vanilla and beat until creamy.
    Pour into a well-greased pan to cool.
    Cut into squares.
