Mary'S Famous Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 bag dried peas
    7 c. water
    12 to 15 peppercorns
    2 1/2 cloves garlic
    3 medium stalks celery, cut in chunks
    3 to 4 carrots, cut in chunks
    3 bay leaves
    4 peeled potatoes, cut and cubed
    1 large onion, diced
    1 ring smoked kielbasi, cut in chunks
Preparation
    Rinse peas in colander with cold water, picking out shells. Put into a 6-quart pot with water.
    Bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Turn off heat and let set for 1 hour.
    Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil once more.
    Simmer for 2 to 3 hours.
