Chocolate Caramel Cake - cooking recipe

1 German chocolate cake mix
28 to 30 caramels
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tub Cool Whip
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Mix cake according to package directions.
Spread one-half of batter into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
Bake for 15 minutes.
In saucepan, melt caramels at medium heat with sweetened condensed milk.
Watch carefully so it doesn't burn.
Spread evenly on baked cake.
Cover caramel topping with rest of cake batter.
Bake an additional 20 to 25 minutes.
When cool, frost with whipped topping.
Refrigerate leftovers.
