Pennsylvania Dutch Corn Bread - cooking recipe

1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder (heaping)
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. yellow corn meal
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. milk
5 Tbsp. shortening, melted and cooled
Preparation

Sift first 4 ingredients in a bowl.
Add corn meal and mix well.
Blend eggs, milk and shortening together until smooth. Pour into a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
Bake at 425\u00b0 for 20 to 25 minutes.
