Thumbprints - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. butter
    1/4 c. shortening
    1/4 c. brown sugar
    1 egg, separated
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Mix butter, shortening, egg yolks and vanilla.
    Work in flour and salt.
    Shape into balls.
    Beat egg whites slightly.
    Dip each ball into egg white; roll in nuts.
    Place on sheet and press thumbprint into center.
    Bake filled with jelly or tinted confectioners sugar.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 7 minutes.
