Icicle Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. white vinegar
    1 c. water
    3 c. sugar
    1/4 c. sugar (additional)
Preparation
    Peel and remove seeds from large cucumbers.
    Cut in strips, 1/2-inch wide.
    Cover with ice water.
    Let stand overnight.
    Drain and pack upright in sterilized pint jars.
    For each 3 or 4 jars, boil together for 3 minutes all the ingredients.
    Pour over the cucumbers to fill the jars.
    Let stand 6 weeks before using.
