Mrs. Sharman'S Date-Nut Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, cut up
1 1/3 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped pecans
rum or bourbon
Preparation

Combine water, baking soda and dates in a small bowl and let stand until cool.
Mix sugar, salt and butter until light.
Beat in eggs.
Add date mixture.
Combine flour and baking powder and gradually add to the batter.
Fold in nuts.
Pour batter into a loaf pan that has been well buttered.
Let stand 20 minutes before baking.
Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Bake 1 1/4 hours.
Loosen loaf from the pan and invert on a cooling rack.
Pour 2 ounces or more rum or bourbon evenly over the bread before wrapping in plastic wrap for storage.
Makes one loaf.
