Sweet And Sour Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. shredded red cabbage
    1 apple, peeled and sliced thin
    3 cloves
    1 bay leaf
    4 peppercorns
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 medium onion, sliced thin
    2 c. water
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1/4 c. vinegar
    1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Place cabbage in Dutch oven with apples, seasonings, onion and water; simmer, covered, for 1 hour.
    Add butter, vinegar and sugar and simmer another hour.
    Add more water if needed.
    At end of cooking time, there should only be a little liquid remaining.
