Hermits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. raisins
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 c. margarine
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
    Cover raisins with cold water; simmer about 10 minutes.
    Drain and cool.
    Cream the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time; beat well after each addition.
    Sift dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture and mix well.
    Add raisins and nuts; fold in thoroughly.
    Batter will be stiff.
    Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes. Cool in pan; cut into 24 squares.
