Buttercream Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. egg whites
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1 1/2 to 2 c. shortening
    1/2 lb. powdered sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Heat the egg whites and sugar in double boiler to 150\u00b0. Transfer to a very large bowl and beat to a meringue.
    Cream the shortening and powdered sugar in largest mixing bowl.
    Add half of the meringue.
    Mix.
    Now add rest of meringue and beat a few minutes.
    Flavor and color to suit.
    I flavor with 1 teaspoon vanilla and use on a white cake.
    Tastes just like a wedding cake.
