Divinity - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. corn syrup
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
Preparation

Combine first four ingredients in saucepan.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved.
Cook without stirring to 248\u00b0 or until small amount forms a firm ball when dropped into very cold water.
Just before syrup reaches 248\u00b0, beat egg whites stiff, but not dry.
Slowly pour one-half of syrup over egg whites, beating constantly.
Cook remainder of syrup to 272\u00b0, or until small amount separates into hard, but not brittle, threads when dropped into very cold water.
Slowly beat into first mixture, beating constantly until mixture holds its shape.
Blend in vanilla.
Stir in nuts.
Drop from tip of spoon onto wax paper.
Makes about 1 1/4 pounds.
