Arlie Rae'S Mexican Cornbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. corn meal (yellow)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 c. milk
    2 eggs, beaten
    1/2 c. bacon drippings or shortening
    1/2 to 1 lb. bacon, chopped and cooked
    1/2 to 3/4 c. extra sharp Cheddar cheese
    1 large can creamed corn
    finely chopped jalapeno peppers to suit taste or chili powder to taste (optional)
Preparation
    Mix milk, eggs, shortening (drippings), bacon and corn.
    Add dry ingredients; stir to blend.
    (Add or omit hot peppers or chili powder; may want plain pepper to taste.) Pour 1/2 into oblong baking pan; sprinkle with 1/2 cheese and pour rest of corn over cheese.
    Sprinkle on rest of cheese.
    Bake approximately 35 to 40 minutes at 400\u00b0 (preheated oven).
