English Muffins - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. milk
    2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    3 c. flour
Preparation
    Bring 1/2 cup water to a boil.
    Mix it with the milk, salt, sugar and shortening in a bowl and let cool to lukewarm.
    Stir the yeast into 1/4 cup warm water and let stand for 5 minutes to dissolve.
    Add the dissolved yeast and 2 cups of flour to the mixture and beat very fast.
    Mix well.
    Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk.
    Stir.
    Add the remaining flour and beat well.
    Cover and let dough double in bulk once again. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and pat the dough until it is 1/2 inch thick.
    Cut into 3 inch rounds.
    Cover and let rise until almost double.
    Cook on well-greased griddle or skillet until done.
    Cook on each side.
    Cool and then split in half.
