Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

1 3/4 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar (brown sugar is better)
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. unsweetened applesauce
1/2 c. raisins
Preparation

Sift flour; measure and resift 3 times with soda, spices and salt.
Cream shortening with sugar.
Add the beaten egg, then the applesauce.
Add dry flour mixture, beating with each addition. Stir in raisins.
Pour into 8-inch square cake pan lined with wax paper on the bottom.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes, or bake in muffin cups for 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool before serving.
