Mayflower'S Tomato Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. onions, finely chopped
    1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
    1 c. sugar
    6 c. tomato puree
    1/4 c. fresh lemon juice
    2 c. garlic, chopped
    1 tsp. allspice
    3 bay leaves
    salt and pepper to taste
    2 1/2 c. heavy cream
Preparation
    Saute the onions in oil, add sugar and cook until caramelized (light gold).
    Add remaining ingredients, except cream, mix well and simmer for 45 minutes.
    Add cream, heat, but do not boil, and serve.
    Makes about 12 cups.
