Sugar Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter or margarine, softened
    1 c. sugar
    1 beaten egg
    2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    colored sugar (for the top)
Preparation
    Cream butter and 1 cup sugar until fluffy.
    Mix in egg and vanilla.
    Sift together cream of tartar, flour, baking soda and salt.
    Blend into creamed mixture; mix well.
    Shape dough into small balls about the size of a nickel.
