German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. Crisco shortening
    4 eggs
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 pkg. German sweet chocolate
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Dissolve chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water.
    Cream Crisco and sugar; add beaten egg yolks.
    Add 3/4 cup buttermilk alternately with flour. Dissolve soda in remaining buttermilk.
    Add salt to chocolate.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Bake in three 9-inch pans at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
    Cool and frost.
