Date Loaf Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    1 small (1 lb.) pkg. dates, chopped
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 c. pecans, chopped
    1/4 cup cherries, chopped
    pinch of salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cook sugar, milk, dates and butter to a soft ball stage; add pecans, salt and vanilla.
    Beat until thick.
    Pour on a clean tea towel and roll up.
    Chill in the refrigerator.
    Best to leave overnight.
    When ready to eat just slice off a slice about 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick.
