Papooh'S Uncooked Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 lb. whole cucumbers
    1 gal. water
    enough salt to float an egg (about 1 box)
    3 to 4 oz. box alum
    whole spice
    apple cider vinegar
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers 7 to 9 days in salt water, take out, rinse and slice.
    Pour salt water out.
    Soak overnight in water to cover and alum.
    Pour off alum water and rinse cucumbers.
    Put cucumbers back in jar, cover with apple cider vinegar.
    Let stand overnight. Pour vinegar off, rinse cucumbers. Pour 10 pounds sugar over cucumbers.
    Add whole spice wrapped in cheesecloth.
    Let stand 2 to 3 weeks.
    Cucumbers do not need to be sealed or refrigerated.
