Smothered Hamburger Steak - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/4 c. fine dry bread crumbs
    4 small onions, sliced
    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can beef gravy
    1/2 c. water
Preparation
    Mix beef with 1/2 cup water and remaining ingredients except onions and gravy. Shape in 4 large patties about 1/2-inch thick. Brown on one side, turn.
    Add onion and brown slightly. Add gravy. Cover and simmer about 35 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes.
