English Walnut Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 cup margarine
    1 cup light brown sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 3/4 cups unsifted flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 pkg. walnut pieces
    1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries
Preparation
    Cream margarine and sugar.
    Add egg and vanilla; beat until smooth.
    Blend in flour, soda, and salt.
    Add walnuts and cherries.
    Form into a roll 2
    1/2 inches wide.
    Wrap in wax paper;
    chill several hours.
    Cut into thin slices, about 1/8 inch thick.
    Place on ungreased baking sheet.
    Bake in a 400 degree oven for 8-10 minutes until browned.
