14 Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. pickles
    1 Tbsp. alum
    3 pt. white vinegar
    6 c. sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon buds (optional)
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    pickling salt
    1 dill stem
    1 bud garlic
    alum (2 to 3 pea-sized pieces)
    1 small onion, if desired
    1 qt. cider vinegar
    3 qt. water
    3/4 c. coarse salt
Preparation
    Pour boiling liquid over pickles in jars.
    Let stand 5 minutes.
    Pour liquid out into large pan and bring to boil again. Refill jars and seal.
    Makes 8 quarts.
