Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. light molasses
1 egg
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. walnuts

Preparation

In large bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup sugar.
Add molasses and egg.
Beat well.
Combine flour, soda, spices and salt.
Stir into molasses mixture.
Mix well.
Fold in raisins and nuts.
Form into 1-inch balls.
Roll in sugar.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Slightly flatten.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 8 minutes.
Makes 5 dozen.
